Column trouble on custom pages Friday, May 29, 2009
9:53 PM

I don't seem to be able to create a two column page, 25% in column 1 and 75% in column 2. Every time to try to change the column widths, I get some sort of scripting error regardless of the browser (either IE or Firefox). Can you check it out please?

Thanks,

Zapgun

Thanks for reporting this, it is appreciated.

Is this happening for any custom page you try to set that way, or only a specific custom page?

I'll look into this shortly and hopefully have something for you.

Thanks!

Just a quick update: I did find a bug that causes the widths to reset back to 50% and 50%, but I haven't found a script error yet. What does the script error say?

Thanks

That's the error I was talking about.

I don't know specifically what the error was but in Firefox after setting the columns you would get a blank popup window blocking you from doing anything on the page, and under IE you would get a really annoying beep repeated about 20 times and the page would freeze. And it was happening on any page I tried to edit. Sorry for not being clear. :)

I'll try it out here in a few minutes and let you know if its all working well. Thanks for the amazingly quick response you guys are the best!

Hmm.. I take it back. It was working the first few times I tried it and now it seems to be broken again, reverting everything back to 50%/50% after you do a save.

Also, I can reliably duplicate the Firefox but where the blank window pops up, blocking you from doing anything. Here's how to duplicate my exact layout (not sure if all of this is required for the bug but might as well show you what I have):

1. Set your custom page for 2 column + widgets
2. Put a Who's Online and a Mini Chat in the left column
3. Put a Text Placeholder in the right column
4. With your mouse, enter a value of 25% for the left column
5. TAB to the right column and enter 75%.
6. TAB again - you should now be frozen and unable to do anything.

Here's my Firefox version if its needed:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Cheers again,

Thanks Zapgun, I've been able to reproduce what you described but only if I press the enter key after filling out the right column width. Does that sound right?

Either way I'm going to work to fix both the issues I've reproduced so far. If you think there is another issue I'm missing please let me know.

Thanks!

I've uploaded a fix for one or more of the problems. While at editpage.aspx, you will need to refresh your browser twice to ensure you get the latest javascript file (or you can delete your browser cache).

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!
